The western area, near the gold-mining town of Bendigo, is red wine country, known for its rich reds from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese.
The Goulburn Valley has been making wine since the 1860s.
A warm and dry area, it’s known for its Rhone varietals, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre (Mataro), Viognier, Rousanne, Marsanne and also Chardonnay.
Heathcote is an area known for its milder temperatures and produces some of the most well-regarded Shiraz in the country.
While the Strathbogie Ranges feature sparkling and cool-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc to rich Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot.
The Upper Goulburn region produces aromatic whites, including Pinot Gris and Chardonnay to reds from Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.
